About This Program

The SPSP Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) was created to provide an intensive summer internship in the methods of social and personality psychology for undergraduates from?underrepresented?ethnic/racial groups. Participating students conduct research and research-related activities full-time for 8 weeks?with a participating mentor and lab.

Students interested in pursuing certain types of research within social and personality psychology may be studying at an institution without the resources specific to that research area.? For example, a student interested in social neuroscience may not have access to imaging or EEG facilities. Others might simply be interested in working with an expert on a particular topic. Students will receive a $3000 stipend to cover living expenses and up to $500 to cover travel to and from the summer research site. The host lab will receive $500 which may be used to offset costs for incidental expenses, graduate mentor stipend, etc.

The?underrepresentation?of ethnic/racial minorities in social psychology limits the range of voices represented within our science. This program is designed to provide?access to research opportunities that will spark students’ love for research and encourage their interest in graduate study in personality and social psychology.

Applications for the summer of 2019 will be accepted from October 1, 2018 to November 10, 2018.?For information on how to apply click “Prospective Student Information.”?
